ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has voiced significant concern over the recent escalation in the Gulf region, emphasizing the need for restraint from all parties involved to prevent further destabilization. In a discussion with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in Islamabad, the Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to serving as a mediator for regional stability.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to regional peace during his meeting with Momeni and reiterated the country’s role as an impartial facilitator. Sharif also referenced his recent visit to Tehran for the funeral of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, extending his respectful regards to the current Supreme Leader and the Iranian President.
Interior Minister Momeni expressed gratitude for the hospitality received in Islamabad and conveyed the Iranian leadership’s greetings. He praised the mediation efforts of Prime Minister Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, which culminated in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. Momeni’s visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties, leading a delegation of senior government officials.
