Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed the Minister for Petroleum to take immediate steps to strengthen the supply chain of Pakistan’s petroleum imports. The directive was issued during a review meeting held in Islamabad, which focused on implementing fuel-saving and austerity measures amid regional challenges.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of preparedness by all relevant departments to take emergency measures if necessary. The meeting was briefed on the ongoing monitoring of the petroleum supply situation, with records being meticulously kept to identify any irregularities. It was reported that the country currently holds an adequate stock of petroleum products to meet its needs.

The meeting also highlighted that the Intelligence Bureau will soon present a report on the implementation of these measures. Additionally, it was noted that cabinet members have voluntarily forfeited their salaries, and fuel consumption reductions in government departments are showing promising results. These savings are expected to offer some relief to the public.

Further discussions revealed that the country has sufficient medicine stocks and that the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom has implemented connectivity solutions to facilitate e-office work-from-home arrangements.
