ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has called for the development of a comprehensive strategy to mitigate the adverse effects of regional turmoil on Pakistan’s agriculture and transport sectors, as well as on the general populace. In a meeting with federal and provincial leaders, he emphasized the need for austerity, protection for vulnerable groups, and a unified national approach to maintain economic stability and growth.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister highlighted the country’s diplomatic efforts to de-escalate regional tensions, led by Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar and military leadership, including Field Marshal Asim Munir. He stated that Pakistan is actively working towards a ceasefire and expressed optimism for the restoration of regional stability.

To cushion the impact of fuel price fluctuations, the government has reduced the petroleum development levy and adjusted diesel and petrol prices by 55 rupees. Sharif stressed the importance of political unity in addressing the current challenges, commending the constructive contributions of political figures such as Chairman PPPP, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and the collaborative discussions held at the Presidency involving provincial leaders.

The Prime Minister instructed authorities to prioritize funding for agriculture and transport sectors to control inflation and sustain economic activities. He underscored the critical nature of the harvesting season and emphasized the need to ensure adequate diesel supplies for farmers to support crop production and facilitate economic recovery.

Furthermore, Sharif urged both federal and provincial administrations to delay non-essential development initiatives and allocate resources towards relief and stabilization efforts aimed at supporting the economically disadvantaged segments of society.
