President Zardari Meets Hunan Leaders to Bolster Cooperation in Key Sectors


Changsha, China: President Asif Ali Zardari, during his visit to Changsha in Hunan province, China, engaged in discussions with Hunan’s Party Secretary Shen Xiaoming and attended a banquet hosted by Governor Mao Weiming, focusing on enhancing cooperation in agriculture, health, education, and trade. The visit underscored the robust ties between Pakistan and China, with an invitation extended to Mr. Shen to visit Pakistan for the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.



According to Press Information Department, President Zardari highlighted the significance of Pakistan-China relations, emphasizing their role as a cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy. He expressed interest in Hunan’s expertise in agricultural technology, aiming to boost productivity in Pakistan through collaboration in seed technology, agricultural research, and modern farming practices. The President noted the potential for expanding trade in agricultural machinery, minerals processing, and information and communication technologies.



The meeting also touched upon educational exchanges, with 12 cooperation agreements in place between Hunan universities and Pakistani institutions, and 959 Pakistani students currently studying in Hunan. Governor Mao Weiming described the bilateral relationship as one of friendship and partnership, pledging continued support for the development of CPEC 2.0.



President Zardari reflected on his personal connection with China, recalling his first visit in 1989 and the enduring bond between the two nations. Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong echoed these sentiments, noting the expanding collaboration in agriculture, industry, and minerals, and expressing hope for further strengthening of ties in light of the upcoming anniversary.



The meeting was attended by notable Pakistani officials, including Senator Saleem Mandviwalla and members of the Sindh government, alongside Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi.
