Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has instructed federal, provincial, and local authorities to enhance coordination in preparedness, rescue, and relief efforts as the nation faces heightened risks from intensifying monsoon rains. The measures aim to address potential flash floods, cloud bursts, glacial lake outburst floods, landslides, river flooding, and urban flooding in areas deemed vulnerable.

According to Press Information Department, President Zardari expressed his condolences for the lives lost and damage inflicted on homes and infrastructure due to recent rains and associated incidents. He conveyed solidarity with the affected families and communities.

The President has tasked the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) to work closely with provincial and local entities to ensure timely early warning dissemination. Continuous monitoring of rainfall, river flows, and water levels, especially in regions like Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, has been mandated, with directives for downstream areas to prepare for possible flooding scenarios.

Authorities have been directed to strategically position rescue and relief resources, safeguard vulnerable communities and infrastructure, and implement protective measures for tourists and visitors in areas at risk from flash floods, glacial lake outburst floods, and landslides.

President Zardari underscored the importance of institutional vigilance and immediate response in scenarios where lives or property are threatened. He urged the public to adhere to official advisories and refrain from unnecessary travel to regions under heavy rain and flood warnings. Additionally, he commended the efforts of rescue workers and emergency personnel involved in relief operations and expressed hopes for the safety of the populace nationwide.
