Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s efforts in facilitating a dialogue between the United States and Iran during a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at Aiwan-e-Sadr. The discussion focused on the regional security and diplomatic situation, which the president emphasized has significant implications for global security, economy, and politics.
According to Press Information Department, Prime Minister Sharif briefed President Zardari on the progress of the dialogue and Pakistan’s mediation efforts. He also informed the president about his upcoming visits to Saudi Arabia and Türkiye to further promote peace initiatives. President Zardari commended the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, Chief of Defence Forces, and state institutions for their coordination in facilitating the dialogue.
President Zardari underscored Pakistan’s historic role in promoting peace and regional stability, stating that hosting the dialogue reaffirms Pakistan’s position as a responsible member of the international community. He urged continued engagement with the United States, Iran, and other global powers to ensure the sustainability of the peace process.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister Senator Rana Sanaullah, and other officials. President Zardari was assisted by former Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Senate leaders.
