Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have conveyed their greetings to the Sikh community in Pakistan and around the world on the occasion of Vaisakhi, underscoring the nation’s commitment to religious diversity and harmony.

President Zardari, in his message, emphasized that Vaisakhi represents the cultural and religious diversity that enhances Pakistan’s beauty. He acknowledged the significant contributions of the Sikh community to the country’s progress and prosperity. The President reiterated Pakistan’s constitutional guarantee of religious freedom and equal rights for minorities, highlighting a commitment to interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence.

Prime Minister Sharif, in his statement, described Vaisakhi as a celebration of the Rabi harvest, a time that brings joy to farmers across the country. He noted that the festival symbolizes hope, unity, and renewal, which are central to the nation’s strength and spirit. The Prime Minister urged citizens to harness the energy and purpose inspired by Vaisakhi to work towards a more inclusive and prosperous future.

During the main ceremony of the Vaisakhi Festival at Nankana Sahib, Minister of State for Religious Affairs Kheal Das Kohistani affirmed that Pakistan is home to all communities, with respect for every religion. He dismissed allegations from India regarding the safety of minorities in Pakistan, asserting that minorities are, in fact, targeted in India.

Minister Kohistani extended a warm welcome to Sikh pilgrims from across the country and abroad, including India, who traveled to Nankana Sahib for the celebrations.
