Khewra, President Dr. Arif Alvi has emphasized the need for effective marketing of Pakistan’s pink salt on a global scale to establish it as a distinguished Pakistani brand. During his visit to the Khewra Salt Mines, the President highlighted the potential of Pakistani raw salt to be processed into valuable products, contributing significantly to the country’s foreign exchange earnings.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Alvi pointed out the advantages of Pakistan’s high-quality rock salt, which is not only low cost but also rich in minerals. He stressed the importance of adopting modern technology in the mining process to minimize wastage, thereby increasing the efficiency and output of salt production.
The visit also included a tour of the Asthma Centre located within the Khewra Salt Mines, where the President interacted with patients and gained insights into the therapeutic benefits of the salt environment. The Managing Director of Pakistan Minerals Development Corporation briefed President Alvi on various aspects of salt mining, including the quality of salt and its diverse components.
In a move to further promote the cultural and economic value of Pakistani salt, President Alvi inaugurated the Salt Library at the Khewra Salt Mines. This initiative is seen as a step towards enhancing knowledge about the significance of salt and its various applications, both domestically and internationally.
