PPP Criticizes Opposition, Defends Development Agenda in Karachi

Karachi: Spokesperson for the Mayor of Karachi and Parliamentary Leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Karamullah Waqasi, has strongly criticized the opposition, particularly the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Jamaat-e-Islami, accusing them of engaging in baseless political rhetoric. According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Waqasi’s remarks come in response to statements made by Ali Khurshidi, Opposition Leader in the Sindh Assembly, and Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Ameer Muneem Zafar Khan, which he described as factually incorrect and politically motivated.

Waqasi contended that the political tactics of the MQM and Jamaat-e-Islami are driven by panic, as they lack any substantial agenda aside from raising unfounded allegations. He emphasized that the PPP’s ongoing efforts to enhance Karachi’s infrastructure and civic services have effectively sidelined the opposition’s political influence. Highlighting the city’s past under MQM’s management, Waqasi argued that the current administration is actively addressing long-standing issues through tangible initiatives.

The spokesperson also dismissed criticisms concerning the K-IV water supply project, asserting the government’s dedication to its completion despite its complexity. Waqasi deemed the targeting of national-level projects like K-IV for political gain as irresponsible.

In response to Muneem Zafar Khan’s statements, Waqasi condemned the politicization of tragic traffic incidents, underscoring the government’s commitment to citizen safety through rigorous traffic law enforcement and infrastructure improvements. He criticized the opposition’s use of sensitive issues for political leverage, labeling it unethical.

Waqasi reaffirmed the Sindh government’s commitment to resolving civic challenges and prioritizing public welfare, calling on the opposition to contribute constructive suggestions rather than merely criticizing. He concluded by reiterating the PPP’s focus on public service and expressed confidence in the public’s ability to discern between allegations and reality.
