Power Division Denies Reports of Fixed Tax on Solar Power in Pakistan

Islamabad, The Power Division has refuted recent reports suggesting the imposition of a fixed tax on solar power in Pakistan. The division clarified that no such proposal has been submitted to the government, dispelling rumors of a potential fixed tax.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Power Division stated that neither the Central Power Purchasing Agency nor the Power Division has submitted a summary to the government indicating plans for a fixed tax on solar power. The division reiterated that the Net Metering Policy of 2017 was designed to encourage the adoption of alternative energy sources, including solar power, in the country’s energy system.

The division acknowledged that solarization has been increasing rapidly and emphasized that any proposals or amendments would aim to protect the interests of the public, particularly to prevent additional burdens on lower-income groups. The Power Division also affirmed its commitment to safeguarding the investment of the approximately 150,000 to 200,000 net metering consumers who rely on solar power.

The statement from the Power Division underscores the government’s focus on promoting renewable energy sources and ensuring that policies support their continued growth without imposing undue burdens on consumers.
