ISLAMABAD: In a significant crackdown on crime, Islamabad Police have arrested 88 suspects involved in serious offenses and recovered stolen property worth millions, according to a press conference held by SSP Investigations Salman Zafar at the Police Lines Headquarters.
According to Islamabad Capital Police, the arrests and recoveries were made under the directives of Inspector General of Police, Captain (R) Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry. The Robbery and Dacoity Unit (RDU) detained 61 suspects, including 30 members of organized gangs, involved in various crimes such as robbery and kidnapping for ransom. Stolen property valued at Rs. 72.9 million was recovered, including mobile phones, laptops, vehicles, and other valuables.
In addition, the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Unit (AVLU) arrested 27 individuals from 11 gangs responsible for vehicle and motorcycle thefts. The unit recovered 35 cars and 21 motorcycles, worth over Rs. 88.2 million, and resolved 56 theft cases. The apprehended gangs reportedly used sophisticated methods to steal vehicles, which were then transported to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The efforts were facilitated by modern surveillance technology and informants, leading to the recovery of stolen items and their return to rightful owners. SSP Salman Zafar emphasized the police’s commitment to safeguarding citizens’ lives and property and prioritizing the recovery of stolen vehicles.
