New York: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism and the central role of the United Nations in fostering international peace and development. His remarks came during a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s adherence to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. He expressed appreciation for the Secretary-General’s leadership and praised his role in upholding the UN Charter to benefit humanity. The discussion between the two leaders encompassed significant regional and international developments, including the Middle East situation.

The Prime Minister underscored the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving regional tensions and reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to promoting peace and stability. He also affirmed Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and statehood. Additionally, Sharif highlighted the rising trend of Islamophobia in the region, calling for effective international measures to address the issue.

The leaders also discussed Afghanistan’s situation and the increasing terrorism originating from Afghan soil. The UN Secretary-General commended Pakistan’s prominent role and contributions to international peace and security, particularly appreciating its mediation efforts for conflict resolution and regional stability. He acknowledged Pakistan’s sacrifices in countering terrorism.
