PM Shehbaz Sharif Expresses Gratification on $7 Billion IMF Package Approval


New York: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has publicly expressed his satisfaction following the International Monetary Fund’s approval of a substantial $7 billion financial aid package for Pakistan. This development is seen as a significant bolster to the nation’s economic reform efforts.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Prime Minister issued a statement from New York thanking the IMF, along with key ally nations such as Saudi Arabia, China, and the United Arab Emirates, for their pivotal support in securing this financial package. He extended his gratitude towards IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and her team for their cooperation and efforts.



Sharif emphasized the vigorous progress of economic reforms currently underway, attributing them to divine assistance and the rigorous efforts of his administration. He expressed optimism about continuing these reforms to achieve sustainable economic development and stability. Highlighting a surge in business activities and investments in Pakistan, Sharif regarded these as positive indicators and direct results of his economic team’s diligence.



Additionally, the Prime Minister reflected on the diplomatic successes achieved and the increase in remittances from overseas Pakistanis, viewing these as a testament to the global confidence in his government’s policies. He also hinted at the possibility that with continued efforts, this could be Pakistan’s final engagement with an IMF program.



Sharif also acknowledged the contributions of key figures in his government, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir, and others who played significant roles in the negotiation and securing of the IMF package.



He extended thanks to the governments of all provinces, with special mention of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, and Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, for their support in this national endeavor.
