Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed authorities to maintain adequate fertilizer reserves for the Kharif and Rabi crop seasons, emphasizing the importance of timely supply to farmers. These directives were issued during a meeting focused on food security and fertilizer availability.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister highlighted potential disruptions in fertilizer supply from Gulf countries and urged planning for alternative sources from Central Asia. He confirmed that the domestic fertilizer industry continues to receive natural gas for production, which is crucial for meeting national agricultural needs.
Sharif also called for expedited efforts to establish new gas plants to boost domestic fertilizer production. The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to the agriculture sector, stating that ensuring food security remains a top priority. He instructed relevant ministries and institutions to monitor fertilizer availability continuously and to take strict measures against hoarding or attempts to create artificial shortages in the market.
