PM Shehbaz Orders Nationwide IT Education Initiative for Schools

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has mandated the integration of Information Technology as a compulsory subject for students starting from grade 6 across the country. The announcement was made during a high-level review meeting concerning the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication.

The Prime Minister underscored the importance of developing the IT sector and increasing IT-related exports, highlighting these areas as key priorities for the government. The directive aims to enhance digital literacy from an early age, preparing students for a technology-driven future.

In addition to nationwide implementation, Prime Minister Sharif directed the Ministry to launch IT training programs specifically in underdeveloped regions, including Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Balochistan. These initiatives are intended to ensure that the quality of education equips trainees with skills to compete for jobs both domestically and internationally.

The decision reflects the government’s commitment to fostering a skilled workforce capable of contributing to the global digital economy. The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has been tasked with swiftly devising a strategy to roll out this educational reform.
