PM Sharif Pushes for Swift Execution of Government Right-Sizing Measures

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to expedite the implementation of the government’s right-sizing measures, aiming to enhance efficiency. The Prime Minister chaired a review meeting on Tuesday in Islamabad to discuss strategies for improving federal government performance through modern technology and training.

According to Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized that eliminating unnecessary positions is a crucial aspect of the government’s reform agenda. As part of the right-sizing initiative, the Utility Stores Corporation, the Pakistan Public Works Department (Pak PWD), and the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) have already been shut down, generating savings for the national budget.

Sharif has ordered a third-party audit of the eliminated positions and closed institutions to ensure transparency and accountability. Additionally, he instructed the Right-Sizing Committee to complete its outstanding recommendations within a month.

The meeting revealed that the initiative has decreased the civil government expenditure to GDP ratio, with vacant posts in various ministries and government departments abolished. Proposals are also being developed for the right-sizing of state-owned enterprises and autonomous bodies.

Furthermore, it was reported that the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines and First Women Bank Limited has been finalized, with efforts underway to privatize other state-owned enterprises.
