Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal Calls for Modernizing Pakistan’s Railway System with Advanced Technology

Islamabad: Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has emphasized the need to enhance Pakistan’s railway capacity through the adoption of modern technology, as part of the National Agenda for Reforms. His remarks came during a meeting with a delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), led by Mr. Chen Chen, Director of the Transport Sector Group.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the discussions centered around ADB’s ongoing support for Pakistan’s transport sector, future development plans, and the challenges facing the country’s infrastructure. Ahsan Iqbal urged the revival of several key railway, transport, and maritime infrastructure projects that were approved in 2018 but had stalled under the previous government. He also proposed the establishment of a knowledge-sharing platform by the ADB to allow countries to benefit from its models and experiences.

Both parties committed to continued collaboration on future projects, including the Multi-Tranche Financing Facility for road development.
