Parliamentary Taskforce Demands Investigation into Newborn Deaths at PIMS


Islamabad: The Parliamentary Taskforce on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the National Assembly has expressed grief over the loss of newborn lives in a fire incident at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Islamabad. The Taskforce has called for an immediate investigation to determine responsibility and ensure accountability.



According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the Taskforce extended condolences to the affected families and voiced concern about the circumstances of the incident. It urged a transparent investigation to identify any negligence or failure of duty. The Taskforce emphasized the need to review hospital safety protocols, fire prevention measures, emergency preparedness, neonatal care, and evacuation procedures to address any institutional shortcomings.



Ms. Shaista Pervaiz, the Convenor of the Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs, described the loss of newborn lives as a national tragedy requiring urgent attention. She highlighted the right of every child to safe healthcare and called for stronger safeguards in public health institutions. The Taskforce also urged authorities to implement corrective measures and ensure compliance with safety standards in public healthcare facilities.
