Islamabad: Pakistan is taking on a diplomatic role to help reduce tensions in the Middle East, according to Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi. He emphasized Pakistan’s function as a bridge builder in the region, highlighting its adherence to principles of sovereignty, international law, and the UN Charter, which is respected by regional capitals, facilitating communication between them.

According to Radio Pakistan, Andrabi made these remarks during his weekly briefing, where he stressed that Pakistan has consistently urged relevant countries to respect sovereignty and territorial integrity, refrain from using force, and uphold international law. He also called for the resumption of dialogue and engagement to peacefully resolve the ongoing crisis.

Addressing the situation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, Andrabi reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to conducting operations with care to avoid civilian harm. He emphasized the importance of receiving assurances from Afghanistan that its territory would not be used for terrorism against Pakistan, noting the absence of such assurances and the continuation of current policies.

Andrabi also expressed concerns about a uranium supply agreement between Canada and India, arguing that this country-specific exception in nuclear cooperation undermines global non-proliferation efforts. He advocated for a non-discriminating, criteria-based approach to civilian nuclear cooperation, applicable equally to states not party to nuclear non-proliferation treaties, to maintain the credibility of the global framework and ensure regional and global peace and security.
