Pakistan’s Consul General in Chicago Engages Illinois Officials, Secures Pakistan Day Proclamation


SPRINGFIELD: Zaman Mehdi, the Consul General of Pakistan in Chicago, made an official visit to the Illinois General Assembly in Springfield, where he engaged with members of the Illinois Senate and House of Representatives. During his visit, discussions centered on the relationship between Pakistan and the United States, the role of the Pakistani-American community, and potential avenues for enhanced cooperation between Pakistan and the State of Illinois.



According to Radio Pakistan, Mehdi’s meeting with Illinois Senate President Don Harmon resulted in a proclamation declaring March 23, 2026, as Pakistan Day in Illinois. Senator Laura Murphy was also in attendance during this significant meeting. In addition to this, the Consul General interacted with State Senators Rachel Ventura, Karina Villa, Laura Ellman, and Laura Fine, as well as State Representatives La Shawn Ford, Justin Cochran, Daniel Didech, Nabeela Syed, and Maura Hirschauer.



The visit underscored the increasing prominence and contributions of the Pakistani-American community in Illinois. It also highlighted a mutual commitment to fostering deeper engagement, mutual understanding, and a stronger partnership between Pakistan and the United States.
