ISLAMABAD: The Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, announced that the Pakistani government is implementing initiatives to preserve rare and endangered traditional arts. These efforts, in collaboration with UNESCO, aim to ensure the transmission of these art forms to future generations.
According to Press Information Department, Minister Khichi made these remarks during a meeting with artists nominated for the Lok Virsa and Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) National Awards 2026. He congratulated the selected artists, emphasizing that their recognition is a source of pride for their families, fields, and the nation. He assured that the selection process was based on merit and artistic excellence.
Addressing the significance of incorporating young artists, Khichi highlighted that a significant number of young talents were nominated for the awards this year, aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision to promote arts and culture among younger generations. He underscored that the preservation of Pakistan’s rare arts is crucial to maintaining the country’s cultural identity and heritage.
The Minister encouraged artists to engage with Lok Virsa and PNCA, showcasing their skills to raise public awareness of Pakistan’s unique artistic traditions. He also mentioned potential opportunities for artists to represent Pakistan at international platforms.
Khichi particularly commended the achievements of women artists and highlighted the Ministry’s efforts to recognize their talents across various artistic fields. He praised the transparent and merit-based selection process led by Lok Virsa and PNCA teams and promised consideration for artists’ suggestions to further improve the institutions.
Federal Secretary for National Heritage and Culture, Asad Rehman Gilani, reaffirmed that the selection process for the awards was entirely merit-based, involving thorough reviews and consultations with various committees and provinces. He emphasized the nominees’ dedication and contributions to their respective fields.
During the meeting, artists from different regions, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir, introduced themselves and expressed gratitude to the Ministry and associated organizations. They pledged their commitment to preserving Pakistan’s cultural heritage and passing on traditional skills to future generations.
