NEW YORK: Pakistan has called for renewed dialogue to address the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, emphasizing the need for a diplomatic resolution over military action.

According to Radio Pakistan, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, addressed the UN Security Council, expressing his country’s deep concern over the escalation of the Ukraine conflict. He urged all involved parties to adhere strictly to their obligations under international humanitarian law.

Ahmad highlighted that a military solution is not viable and emphasized that enduring peace can only be achieved through sincere, sustained, and meaningful dialogue. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the implementation of Resolution 2774 and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities to allow space for diplomatic efforts and the resumption of negotiations.

The representative stressed that a peaceful settlement, aligning with the UN Charter’s purposes and principles, the legitimate security interests of all parties, and relevant multilateral agreements, remains the sole viable solution. Ahmad confirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at attaining a just, comprehensive, and lasting resolution to the conflict.
