Pakistan Urges Political Commitment to Forge a Strong Development Action Plan

New York: During the Second Committee General Debate at the UN, Pakistan emphasized the need for increased political will to craft a substantial action plan for development, targeting enhanced public and private investment in sustainable infrastructure across developing nations.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Ambassador Munir Akram proposed the creation of a UN mechanism to boost Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), which saw a 26 percent decrease in 2023. He underscored the urgency of addressing climate justice, expanding climate finance, and reforming trade practices to better support developing countries. Furthermore, Ambassador Akram advocated for treating technology as a global public good, highlighting the need for greater intellectual property flexibility and coherent agreements on Artificial Intelligence.
