NEW YORK: Pakistan has called for enhanced international action to tackle conflict-related sexual violence, emphasizing the need for comprehensive accountability measures. The appeal was made by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, during the Security Council’s Open Debate on Conflict-Related Sexual Violence.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Ahmad highlighted that such violence is frequently used as a deliberate strategy in warfare, serving as a means of terror, torture, repression, and collective punishment. He urged for stronger global efforts to address these issues and emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to collaborating with all UN Member States to eliminate impunity.
Ahmad stressed the importance of upholding the dignity of victims and survivors and advocated for a response characterized by protection, accountability, and justice, rather than silence or selective attention.
