New york: Pakistan has urged for enhanced cooperation between the United Nations and the League of Arab States (LAS) to effectively address the escalating crises in the Middle East and North Africa. This appeal was made during a high-level briefing at the UN Security Council, highlighting the critical need for coordinated efforts in the region.

According to Radio Pakistan, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, emphasized the importance of a durable peace process that involves coordinated, inclusive, and regionally anchored responses grounded in the UN Charter and international law. His remarks came during the Security Council’s session focused on fostering cooperation between the UN and regional organizations like the LAS.

Ambassador Ahmad highlighted the precarious security situation in the region, pointing to recent strikes on Iran and the challenges faced by Gulf Arab League members, including direct attacks on their territories and restricted navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. He underscored the necessity for an immediate cessation of hostilities and a return to dialogue as the foremost priority to stabilize the region.
