New York: Pakistan has urged for enhanced and non-discriminatory international cooperation to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. The appeal was delivered by Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, during a Security Council briefing on the 1540 Committee.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Jadoon highlighted the significance of promoting non-proliferation, describing it as crucial in the current global landscape marked by conflicts, tensions, and security challenges. He underscored that efforts to curb proliferation should not impede international collaboration in the peaceful application of dual-use technologies, which are essential for economic progress, especially in the Global South. The Ambassador reaffirmed that all nations possess an inalienable right to utilize nuclear energy and associated technologies for peaceful purposes, in alignment with non-proliferation and international legal commitments.
