Pakistan Supports Bangladesh for IPU Executive Committee at 153rd Assembly

Arusha: Pakistan extended its support to the candidature of Ms. Jasharat Adib Chowdhury of Bangladesh for the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) during the Asia-Pacific Group meeting on the sidelines of the 153rd IPU Assembly in Arusha, Tanzania.

According to Press Information Department, the Pakistani parliamentary delegation, led by Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, backed the Bangladeshi candidate, highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to regional cooperation and enhanced representation of the Asia-Pacific region within the IPU framework. Ms. Chowdhury was elected to the IPU Executive Committee after securing a majority of votes.

Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani congratulated Ms. Chowdhury and the Bangladeshi delegation, emphasizing Pakistan’s focus on strengthening parliamentary relations with Bangladesh. Gilani stated that Pakistan values enhanced cooperation among Asia-Pacific parliaments and aims for a unified voice in international parliamentary forums.

Gilani also noted that parliamentary diplomacy is crucial for fostering dialogue, understanding, and collaboration on shared regional and global challenges.
