Islamabad: Dr. Malik Mukhtar Ahmad, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on National Health Services, announced the government’s ambition to make Pakistan a significant player in the global pharmaceutical industry. He addressed these plans at the Pharma Export Summit, emphasizing the government’s commitment to fostering an environment conducive to innovation and sustainable growth within the sector.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Ahmad highlighted the government’s proactive approach in transforming the pharmaceutical landscape. Key initiatives include bolstering the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) and its upcoming digitization, which he noted will soon be completed. He also acknowledged the substantial progress the local pharmaceutical industry has made over recent decades, pointing out its pivotal role in meeting the country’s healthcare needs and contributing to economic development.
Dr. Ahmad detailed the industry’s growth in production and exports, with local operations now satisfying ninety percent of domestic pharmaceutical needs—a milestone he described as commendable. He expressed optimism about increasing investment in the sector, anticipating it will further enhance Pakistan’s standing in the global market.
