Pakistan Seeks US Support to Advance Clean Energy Initiatives


Islamabad, In a significant meeting aimed at bolstering Pakistan’s clean energy trajectory, US Ambassador Donald Blome met with Pakistan’s Minister for Power, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, to discuss collaborative avenues in renewable energy and climate fund utilization. Pakistan’s proactive approach toward clean energy and its request for US assistance to access the Green Climate Fund underscore the nation’s dedication to sustainable development and environmental resilience.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the discussions between Ambassador Blome and Minister Leghari centered on Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing its renewable energy capacity, in line with achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7. The US’s expression of interest from companies in investing in Pakistan’s renewable sector marks a positive step toward realizing these clean energy objectives.



Minister Leghari outlined Pakistan’s innovative “Fan Replacement Program” aimed at reducing energy consumption nationwide, soliciting support from USAID for this and other energy conservation initiatives. Such programs are crucial for Pakistan’s strategy to mitigate energy wastage and promote efficient consumption practices.



The upcoming Economic Dialogue in the USA was also a topic of discussion, with Ambassador Blome emphasizing the importance of Pakistan’s participation. This dialogue presents an opportunity for Pakistan to engage with international stakeholders on energy and economic issues, further integrating the country into the global discourse on sustainable development.
