Pakistan Seeks Kazakh Investment in Major Port Projects


Islamabad: Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, has extended an invitation to Kazakh investors to explore partnerships at key Pakistani ports, including opportunities at Gwadar’s free zones, to boost Kazakhstan’s access to both regional and international trade markets. The invitation was made during a meeting with a Kazakh delegation led by Timur Turlov, CEO of Freedom Holding Corp. Discussions between the two parties focused on cooperation in transshipment operations and the development of various terminal facilities at Pakistan’s ports.



According to Press Information Department, Junaid Chaudhry emphasized the strategic importance of Karachi and Gwadar in the realm of regional commerce, highlighting the potential for international investment in Pakistan’s maritime infrastructure. The Kazakh delegation showed a keen interest in the maritime sector, signaling growing confidence in Pakistan’s economic and maritime strategies.



Chaudhry further invited Freedom Holding Corp. to engage in Pakistan’s blue economy projects, underscoring the role of Pakistani ports as crucial gateways for Kazakhstan and other landlocked Central Asian nations to access markets in the Gulf, Africa, and Southeast Asia. The discussions also touched upon enhancing connectivity via road, rail, and air between Pakistan and Central Asian countries, particularly Kazakhstan, to bolster regional trade integration.



Timur Turlov expressed optimism about Pakistan’s evolving maritime sector and reaffirmed his company’s interest in pursuing strategic investments that align with Pakistan’s broader economic development goals.
