Islamabad: On International Women’s Day, Pakistan emphasized its ongoing commitment to the empowerment and advancement of women, highlighting legislative and policy measures designed to enhance their rights and representation.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government of Pakistan remains dedicated to promoting gender equality, as enshrined in the nation’s Constitution, and to fulfilling its obligations under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). The country is set to host the 9th Ministerial Conference on Women of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) this year, underscoring its commitment to advancing women’s rights within the Islamic world and beyond.

Pakistan has developed a framework to foster gender-sensitive legislation and expand opportunities for women in leadership across various sectors, including politics, the judiciary, civil service, and the armed forces. The country’s efforts are supported by legal protections, social safety nets, and initiatives aimed at financial inclusion and supporting women entrepreneurs.

The statement also highlights Pakistan’s stance on advocating for the rights of women and girls in regions facing conflict, specifically mentioning the challenges faced by women in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and in Palestine. The government calls for global solidarity to address and alleviate the struggles of these communities.
