Islamabad: Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to the Indus Waters Treaty following a significant ruling by the Court of Arbitration regarding ongoing disputes over hydroelectric project designs on shared rivers with India. The ruling, known as the Supplemental Award, addresses issues related to the Ratle Hydroelectric Plant and the Kishenganga Hydroelectric Project, which have been points of contention between the two nations.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Court’s decision aligns with Pakistan’s stance that the Treaty imposes substantial limits on India’s control over water resources on the western rivers. The ruling further enhances Pakistan’s rights to review and request necessary information from India to ensure compliance with the Treaty. Pakistan has expressed its satisfaction with the ruling and reiterated its dedication to the Treaty’s procedures for resolving disputes peacefully and ensuring amicable management of shared water resources.
