Karachi, At a recent United Nations Security Council Open Debate in New York, Pakistan voiced serious concerns about the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorist group’s possession and use of modern, sophisticated weapons. This statement was made by Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Usman Jadoon.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ambassador Jadoon, in his address, pointed out that terrorists and criminals do not produce these arms themselves. Instead, they obtain them either from illicit arms markets or from entities with intentions to destabilize specific regions or countries. He emphasized the urgent need for a thorough investigation into how the TTP has acquired such advanced weaponry, which is being used against Pakistan’s border and security posts.
Ambassador Jadoon also highlighted that it is the collective responsibility of all states and the United Nations to implement measures to prevent the illicit trade, transfer, and diversion of small arms and light weapons. He called for concerted efforts to curb the supply of such weapons to terrorist groups.
Further, the Ambassador reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to working closely with the international community in exposing and addressing those responsible for supporting, financing, and externally sponsoring such operations. His statement underscores the gravity of the situation and Pakistan’s resolve in combating the threats posed by the illicit arms trade and its implications for regional peace and security.
