Pakistan Prime Minister Leads Delegation at SCO Summit in Astana

Astana: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif represented Pakistan at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State summit, discussing key regional and global issues and adopting multiple cooperation agreements.

According to Press Information Department, the summit, held on July 3-4, saw the adoption of the Astana Declaration and three key statements focusing on the safety of drinking water and sanitation, effective waste management, and principles of good neighbourliness. Additionally, the Council approved various strategies for continued economic and security cooperation and signed an agreement on environmental protection.

During his address, Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the “Shanghai Spirit,” advocating mutual trust and respect for shared prosperity. He emphasized Pakistan’s support for the UN Charter’s principles, advocating peaceful resolutions to longstanding disputes and highlighting the country’s strategic role as a trade and transit hub within the SCO. As the current Chair of the SCO Council of Heads of Government, Pakistan aims to enhance cooperation among member states.
