ISLAMABAD: On the occasion of World Maritime Day, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to advancing safe, efficient, and environmentally sustainable maritime transportation. The maritime sector is identified as a crucial component of the country’s trade, defense, and economic activities linked to the Blue Economy.

According to Press Information Department, this year’s World Maritime Day is being observed under the theme “From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence.” Pakistan is striving to align its national maritime industry with international standards and implement conventions of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). These efforts are part of the broader objectives outlined in Pakistan Vision 2047.

Pakistan is focused on enhancing the professional skills of its maritime personnel and promoting quality education and training. The country is also committed to sustainable maritime transportation, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and protect the marine environment. The international community is urged to focus on alternative maritime fuels, advanced technologies, and marine pollution prevention.

Nationally, Pakistan is accelerating the digital transformation of its maritime sector, introducing smart shipping, integrated port systems, artificial intelligence, and bolstering cybersecurity. As a responsible maritime nation, Pakistan aims to develop a robust, modern, and globally competitive maritime sector that adheres to international standards.
