Pakistan Marks World Maritime Day, Pledges to Enhance Maritime Safety and Environmental Protection


Islamabad: Pakistan observed World Maritime Day today, with a focus on improving safety and environmental sustainability in maritime practices. President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the theme for this year, ‘Navigating the Future: Safety First,’ highlighting the need for proactive safety measures and technological advancements in the maritime sector. The President outlined Pakistan’s commitment to international maritime standards and its efforts in combating marine pollution and climate change.



According to Press Information Department, President Zardari detailed the significance of the maritime sector as a cornerstone of global trade and its role in economic growth and international cooperation. He recognized the efforts of individuals across the industry, from engineers to policymakers, in ensuring the safety and sustainability of oceanic activities. The President’s message on this occasion also reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to upholding and enhancing its maritime regulatory framework and environmental protection measures.



President Zardari confirmed Pakistan’s adherence to several International Maritime Organization (IMO) conventions, including the Hong Kong Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships. These commitments highlight Pakistan’s proactive approach to ensuring the safety of maritime operations and the protection of the marine environment. Additionally, the President spoke about initiatives aimed at strengthening waste management systems and expanding community-driven projects to tackle marine pollution.
