Islamabad: Pakistan has warned that any hostile actions targeting its vessels or maritime interests in the Red Sea will be considered a serious threat to its national security, emphasizing its right to retaliate.

According to Radio Pakistan, Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi made these remarks during a weekly briefing. Andrabi condemned threats by the Houthis against Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping in the Red Sea, highlighting the potential risk to regional security, freedom of navigation, and global trade. He stated that any attack on Pakistani-flagged or commercial vessels would be met with swift retaliation, underlining Pakistan’s commitment to self-defense.

In addressing broader Middle Eastern and Gulf tensions, Andrabi advocated for restraint and reiterated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to promote dialogue. He affirmed Pakistan’s dedication to its bilateral agreements with Saudi Arabia, particularly those concerning mutual defense.

Responding to Amnesty International’s report on Pakistan’s military actions in Kabul, Andrabi refuted the allegations, citing a lack of credible evidence. He criticized the Taliban regime for fostering an environment conducive to terrorist activities and justified Pakistan’s military strikes as necessary defensive measures.

In regard to the European Union’s fifth GSP report, Andrabi acknowledged the report’s recognition of Pakistan’s legislative advancements and compliance with international conventions. He emphasized the significance of the GSP Plus framework in Pakistan’s economic relations with the EU, supporting various socio-economic objectives, including employment and poverty reduction. Andrabi reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining compliance with the GSP conventions.
