Pakistan Hosts Workshop to Advance Salt Mining Techniques

Islamabad: The National Productivity Organization (NPO), in partnership with the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) and the Salt Manufacturing Association of Pakistan (SMAP), convened a two-day consultative workshop in Islamabad to address advancements in salt mining. The event, held on April 14-15, 2025, focused on promoting modern mining techniques and enhancing the export potential of high-quality salt products.

The workshop, titled “Safe and Productive Mining,” attracted around 50-60 participants from the salt and mining sector. Asad Salam Mahni, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Industries and Productive Division, attended the event as the chief guest. He expressed gratitude to the attendees and organizers, acknowledging the significant discussions that took place.

Mahni emphasized the ministry’s commitment to boosting industry productivity and global competitiveness. He highlighted the collective responsibility of stakeholders to maximize the potential of Pakistan’s salt and mining sectors.

Ismail Suttar, Founder Chairman of SMAP, stressed the importance of initiatives like this workshop for the development of the local mining community. He pointed to efforts to improve extraction methods and create value-added products, which could lead to increased export opportunities.

The event concluded with a call to action for participants to disseminate their newfound knowledge within their networks, aiming to create a broader impact on the industry.
