Singapore: The High Commissioner of Pakistan to Singapore, Rabia Shafiq, underscored the importance of fortifying the bilateral ties between Pakistan and Singapore, highlighting the potential for collaboration in political, economic, and institutional areas. Addressing the Singapore Press Club at an event held at Pakistan House, she noted the longstanding relationship between the two nations and the need to explore untapped opportunities.
According to a statement by Press Information Department, Shafiq emphasized that despite the flourishing diplomatic relations, the economic and trade connections between Pakistan and Singapore remain modest, with a trade volume of approximately US$1.193 billion. She identified the Halal products sector as an area ripe for growth and highlighted Pakistan’s increasing involvement in Singapore’s fintech ecosystem.
The event, which was attended by journalists and communication specialists, showcased Pakistan’s tourism potential and cultural heritage through a display of books and traditional Pakistani cuisine. Shafiq pointed out that since 2019, Pakistani startups have been actively participating in the Singapore Fintech Festival, reflecting a growing presence in this sector and opening avenues for further cooperation.
The gathering concluded with a Q and A session focusing on Pakistan’s economy and foreign relations, allowing for an interactive dialogue on the future of Pakistan-Singapore ties.
