Singapore: The Pakistan High Commission in Singapore hosted a reception on Thursday to mark the 85th Pakistan Day, drawing prominent figures and highlighting the growing ties between the two nations.

Dr. Koh Poh Koon, Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Manpower and Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, attended as the Guest of Honour. Members of Parliament, Mr. Louis Ng and Dr. Lim Wee Kiak, were present, adding distinction to the event.

The ceremony began with the national anthems of both countries and included a documentary showcasing Pakistan’s history and culture. A special cake-cutting ceremony with the dignitaries marked the occasion.

High Commissioner Rabia Shafiq spoke about the significance of the Pakistan Day Resolution of 23 March 1940 and expressed satisfaction with the strengthening ties between Pakistan and Singapore. She noted the upcoming 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations and praised the Pakistani diaspora in Singapore for their contributions.

Dr. Koh congratulated Pakistan on its National Day and highlighted the role of the Pakistani community in Singapore’s economy. He emphasized the potential for increased cooperation in trade, food, and the digital economy.

The reception featured a diverse group of attendees, including officials, diplomats, business leaders, and members of the Pakistani community. Guests enjoyed Pakistani cuisine and received gifts of Basmati rice and spice mixes, promoting Pakistan’s export products.
