Pakistan Faces Temperature Anomalies and Varied Rainfall Patterns in September, Says Meteorological Report

Islamabad: Pakistan experienced significant variations in rainfall and temperatures in September 2024, with some regions facing extreme drought conditions while others saw moderate to heavy rainfall, as per the latest Drought Bulletin from the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department, areas in Baluchistan, Punjab, and Sindh—such as Nokkundi, Dalbandin, Bahawalpur, and Sukkur—received no rainfall, while the rest of the country recorded moderate to heavy rain. Temperatures in most parts of Pakistan ranged 1°C to 5°C above normal, exacerbating moisture stress in regions already suffering from dry conditions, particularly in western Balochistan.

The forecast for October 2024 predicts above-normal precipitation in most parts of the country, especially in Sindh, while Gilgit Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are expected to see normal to below-normal rainfall. Temperatures are projected to remain above normal, particularly in Gilgit Baltistan.

Authorities have been advised to plan disaster risk management (DRM) activities in light of the ongoing and anticipated climate patterns.
