Peshawar: Pakistan Customs officials were injured during a routine anti-smuggling operation in Peshawar, resulting in gunfire and an escape by the suspects. The incident occurred at Jahaz Chowk, Phase-III, Hayatabad, when officials intercepted vehicles suspected of transporting illegal goods.
According to Press Information Department, the Customs squad, led by Inspector Muhammad Areeb, stopped two Chingchi rickshaws from Karkhano Market for inspection. During the check, five individuals in a white Suzuki Swift allegedly interfered, leading to a physical altercation. Noor Rahman, allegedly one of the individuals, fired at the officials, injuring Sepoys Muhammad Luqman and Faisal Shah.
The suspects fled with the rickshaws, and a First Information Report has been filed at Police Station Hayatabad. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the suspects and recover the vehicles and goods. Pakistan Customs denounced the attack and affirmed its commitment to tackling smuggling and safeguarding the nation’s economic interests.
