Pakistan Calls on Taliban to Lift Restrictions on Women and Combat Terrorism

New York: Pakistan has urged the Taliban authorities to lift restrictions on women and girls and to take concrete action against terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory. During an Interactive Dialogue with the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan, Counsellor Muhammad Jawad Ajmal emphasized the necessity for these changes in the third committee of the UN General Assembly.

According to Radio Pakistan, Jawad Ajmal called on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities towards vulnerable Afghan refugees and to support efforts for a stable and peaceful Afghanistan. He highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding humanitarian role, noting that Pakistan has hosted millions of Afghan refugees over several decades, often with insufficient international support.

Addressing the security situation, Ajmal stressed that terrorism remains a core challenge for Afghanistan. He expressed deep concern about the presence and activities of terrorist groups, including the TTP, BLA, Majeed Brigade, Al-Qaida, ISIL-K, and ETIM, and their affiliates, which are operating from Afghan territory. He underscored that Pakistan would not remain passive in the face of continued terrorist attacks on its people and national security.

Ajmal reaffirmed that Pakistan would exercise its right to self-defense whenever necessary, in accordance with international law, against any threats to its citizens and national security.
