ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan-Bulgaria Parliamentary Friendship Group has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral and parliamentary ties. The meeting, held at Parliament House in Islamabad, was led by Ms. Zeb Jaffar, Convener of the group, and attended by a Bulgarian delegation headed by Mr. Petko Doykov, Director General for Bilateral Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria. Discussions focused on enhancing parliamentary engagement, trade, economic cooperation, and educational exchanges.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, prior to the meeting, Mr. Ishtiaq Ahmed Akil, Director General (Europe-I) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, briefed the participants on the current status of Pakistan-Bulgaria relations and potential avenues for collaboration. Ms. Jaffar emphasized the importance of regular exchanges of parliamentarians, cooperation in various sectors, and expanding bilateral trade through the Pakistan-EU Business Forum.
Mr. Doykov underscored Bulgaria’s commitment to a sustained political dialogue and highlighted opportunities in trade, information technology, and youth engagement. He expressed Bulgaria’s dedication to establishing the counterpart Parliamentary Friendship Group and facilitating parliamentary exchanges.
H.E. Mrs. Irena Gancheva, the Bulgarian Ambassador to Pakistan, expressed confidence in further institutionalizing parliamentary engagement. The meeting concluded with a resolve to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy and enhance collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
