Astana: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the sidelines of the SCO Summit, emphasizing a commitment to enhance the multifaceted relationship between the two nations, particularly in areas of trade, connectivity, and regional cooperation.
According to Press Information Department, the discussions focused on leveraging Uzbekistan’s strategic position to expand trade and implement infrastructure projects like the Karachi Port Connectivity to Termez. The leaders expressed confidence in the potential of agreements such as the Preferential Trade Agreement and Pakistan-Uzbekistan Transit Trade Agreement to boost economic relations.
They also discussed regional issues, notably the situation in Afghanistan, underscoring the importance of a stable and prosperous Afghanistan to the development of Central Asia. The meeting also covered progress on the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan Railway Project, which is expected to significantly enhance connectivity and economic integration in the region.
