Islamabad: At a recent sideline meeting during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkiye agreed to enhance cooperation across various sectors, including trade, investment, defense, and security.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the leaders discussed the preparations for the forthcoming 7th session of the Pakistan-Türkiye High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, which is set to convene in Islamabad soon. They reviewed not only bilateral issues but also pressing regional and global developments, with particular focus on the crisis in Gaza. Both leaders advocated for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza and the cessation of hostilities.
Further discussions highlighted Turkiye’s continuous support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a stance greatly appreciated by Prime Minister Sharif. Additionally, President Erdogan praised Prime Minister Sharif’s economic policies, which he noted as pivotal in stabilizing Pakistan’s economy and commended his leadership and commitment to economic reforms.
