Pakistan and Singapore Celebrate 60 Years of Diplomatic Relations with Qawwali Evening

Singapore: The Pakistan High Commission in Singapore, in collaboration with The Esplanade Theatre, organized an evening of Qawwali titled “At the Feet of the Beloved” to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Singapore.

According to Press Information Department, the event, held at The Esplanade, attracted a large audience, including members of the diplomatic corps, art enthusiasts, business leaders, the Pakistani diaspora, and the general public. The performance featured renowned Qawwals Rizwan and Muazzam, known for carrying forward a 700-year-old Sufi musical tradition. Their renditions were well-received by attendees.

High Commissioner Rabia Shafiq, speaking at the event, highlighted Qawwali’s roots in the teachings of Sufi saints, emphasizing its role in promoting love, harmony, and spiritual devotion. She noted the importance of cultural traditions as a bridge connecting people across cultures, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to promoting cultural understanding and strengthening ties with Singapore.

Alongside the event, the High Commissioner hosted a reception for diplomats and distinguished guests. The evening showcased Pakistan’s cultural heritage and its dedication to fostering closer ties with Singapore through cultural diplomacy.
