ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan-Serbia Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) convened its inaugural briefing session at the Parliament House in Islamabad, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries. The meeting, led by Convener Muhammad Numan, MNA, saw participation from group members and representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Commerce, alongside the virtual presence of Pakistan’s Ambassador to Serbia, Syed Faraz Hussain Zaidi.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the session underscored the significance of bolstering parliamentary engagement as a means to deepen ties. Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs provided a historical overview of Pakistan-Serbia relations, highlighting ongoing diplomatic efforts and the evolving nature of bilateral interactions. The Ministry of Commerce presented insights on the trade relationship, noting its modest scale but significant potential for growth, alongside discussions on opening a Serbian diplomatic mission in Islamabad to further facilitate cooperation.

Ambassador Zaidi provided an analysis of Serbia’s political and economic landscape, identifying opportunities for expanded collaboration in trade, education, tourism, and parliamentary exchanges. Group members emphasized the role of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering institutional interactions and called for streamlining visa processes to boost academic, cultural, and economic exchanges.

The session concluded with Convener Numan expressing optimism about the group’s capacity to actively enhance parliamentary engagement and promote comprehensive cooperation between Pakistan and Serbia across various sectors.
