Pakistan and Russia Forge Path to Strengthen Economic Partnerships

Tashkent: Pakistan and Russia have agreed to enhance economic relations in sectors including energy, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and information technology. This development emerged from discussions between Pakistan’s Chairman Senate, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, and a Russian parliamentary delegation led by Valentina Matviyenko, the chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 150th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Tashkent, reaffirmed the strategic importance of Pakistan-Russia relations and highlighted the role of parliamentary diplomacy in advancing bilateral and regional cooperation.

Both parties committed to strengthening institutional linkages between their parliaments. This includes plans for exchange visits, reviving parliamentary friendship groups, and maintaining consistent dialogue to address common challenges.

Moreover, there was a consensus on the significance of coordinated efforts in international forums such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the United Nations (UN), especially in areas like climate action, food security, and counter-narcotics.

Chairman Gilani reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to regional peace, emphasizing the necessity for inclusive political solutions and humanitarian aid in Afghanistan. He also acknowledged Russia’s efforts in promoting dialogue and stability in the area.
