Pakistan and Russia Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties through Sports and Diplomacy


Islamabad: Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Rana Sanaullah met with H.E. Mr. Albert P. Khorev, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Pakistan, to discuss the enhancement of bilateral relations, focusing on cooperation in sports and mutual interests. Both parties expressed their commitment to strengthening cooperation across sectors, including sports, education, culture, and economic engagement.



According to Press Information Department, the meeting resulted in an agreement to accelerate the implementation of existing Memorandums of Understanding on sports cooperation between the two nations. Rana Sanaullah highlighted the prioritization of collaboration in football, including organizing a friendly match between Pakistan and Russia. He emphasized Russia’s capabilities in sports development and the potential to strengthen ties through cooperation in various fields.



H.E. Mr. Albert P. Khorev showed interest in learning from Pakistan’s expertise in cricket as the sport gains popularity in Russia, appreciating Pakistan’s achievements in international cricket. The discussion also covered promoting traditional sports and exploring new sports diplomacy opportunities, such as winter sports exchanges and a potential visit by a Russian ice hockey team to Pakistan.



The Ambassador acknowledged Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace and dialogue. Rana Sanaullah reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to expanding cooperation with Russia, expressing confidence in the benefits of continued engagement for both nations.
